Message I'm driving a 2002 Mazda Protege ES.

I bought it brand new. Currently at 329000kms / 204500 miles. Very reliable, still on the original clutch. Fun to drive.

Only issue is the rust. This gen Protege and the first gen Mazda3s are very prone to rust. I've seen other cars that are as old as mine with about the same mileage have no rust, so it's not just our winters / salting of roads. Mazda definitely had issues with their steel supplier / design / fabrication methods.

If it survives this winter, it might be time to retire it in the spring, or turn it into a Lemons / Chumpcar racer. Have a full Mazdaspeed turbo kit for it in the basement.

Next daily driver is likely to be a minivan. Something about having twins is starting to make this a reality.
